How to Wash and Care for Chikankari Palazzos
Share
Chikankari embroidery is delicate, and a little care keeps it looking beautiful wash after wash. Here's how to look after your chikankari palazzos.
Chikankari cotton palazzos
- Hand wash only, in cold water with a mild detergent.
- Wash separately for the first few washes, as dark colours may release some dye.
- Don't scrub or wring the embroidery: gently squeeze out the water instead.
- Dry in shade to protect the colour.
- Iron on the reverse side to protect the threadwork.
Chikankari rayon palazzos
- Gentle machine wash cold, inside out.
- Do not bleach or wring.
- Line dry in shade.
- Warm iron on the reverse side.
Removing small stains
Treat stains early by dabbing, not rubbing, with cold water and a little mild detergent. Avoid harsh stain removers and bleach on embroidery.
Storing chikankari
Store folded in a dry cupboard, away from direct sunlight. A cotton cloth bag helps keep white and off-white pieces bright.
